A Veil of Tears

Hiding behind a lonely veil of tears

Trapped in the darkness of his fears

He carries a rose to the sacred site

And stands at a tomb in pale moonlight

His chest is being pushed apart

By swelling emotions in his heart

He falls cross-legged to the ground

His muffled sobs the only sound

His soul sends out silent screams

To hold again the one of whom he dreams

Lightning briefly illuminates the night

Showing to all a wretched, ghastly sight

From a grave, a corpse walks away

Where his love does peaceably lay

He lives life on a downhill course

With nothing, no hope, full of remorse

Hiding behind a veil of inner tears

The days drag by turning into years

The breeze on his face was refreshingly cool

As he walked home from work past a school

Hearing the joyous sounds of children at play

Remembering she would have been seven today

I hope Jesus gives her a special kiss he thought

As to suppress the wave of tears he fought

It seemed as if he could hear her little feet

Running down heaven’s golden street

Hear her sweet voice as it softly chimes

To the tunes of her favorite nursery rhymes

See her in green meadows chasing butterflies

Silhouetted against the prettiest blue skies

Her curls bouncing in the sunlight

As on a new adventure she takes flight

He slowly continues on down the road

Shoulders hunched beneath their load

As unseen angels hover gently around

Doing their duty to keep him safe and sound

Cause a little girl looks down from above

Saying “Watch him, that’s my daddy whom I love”.
